Pattern Sensing
Extremely rare. Valthial tells Jahir that most people who tried to see the future went insane.

Cusp Events
Moments when the Sight indicates that all potentials are frozen and lead to a single point, at which point a choice (or choices) are made that lead to an irrevocable shift in the future. These moments are rare.

<blockquote>“Because there is room in every story for choice,” Liolesa said. “But sometimes, the divine writers say, 'this event must occur, or the story will be nonsensical, and not have the ending that We desire.' When those events draw near, it is not a sign that our choices are less important. It is a sign that our choices are among the most important we can make. That the event in question exists so that we can manifest our natures, and show whether we are in accord with the mores of the story... or demonstrate that we are at war with them.”</blockquote>

Two known instances:
* During the events that unfolded during the novel Rose Point, when Reese Eddings made her first visit to the Eldritch homeworld. Witnessed by Liolesa, who had Hirianthial in her company. Liolesa speaks of it, the day before Reese's court presentation: "What I feel is that if I don't catalyze something now, we might not survive."
* During the events that unfolded during the duology Lisinthir's Heirs, when Lisinthir returned to solidify his claim on Imthereli. Witnessed by Jahir and Liolesa.

Kindling (Fire-Starting)
*Only three Eldrich have manifested this talent. Two of them died in firestorms they conjured in 'fits of strong emotion.' Sediryl Galare would have been the third to die if it hadn't been for her friends. Qora offers to train her gift.
*Presumably the Faulfenza would have more stories of fire mages within their species, since it seems that all of them have fire talents at some level as a God given ability.

Glaseah
The Glaseah include basic mind training alongside literacy and mathematics in early childhood education. The primer alternates between practical exercises in focus and concentration, and cheerful explanations of the ethical and mannerly use of the mind talents. The latter are typically framed as roleplaying exercises.

Development
Kits receive a 'mind-flowering' gift when they first show signs of developing talent.

Mind-levels
# etpesk
# sizht
# g'ht'j
# q'znth (mind apprentice)
# nva'shec'k (mind master): to be able to hold a conversation, mind-to-mind, with a known person over range; to be able to maintain that contact under duress; to be able to identify concrete facts in the environment of a person at range; and to be able to resist influence from a master-level power.
# dva'htiht (mind mage)
# sa'tih (mind healer)

Extra special doubleplus ungood level: o'ht'aj, mind slave.

Mindlines
"A mindline is a permanent psychic channel between two or more people. It's rare. It has to form between two compatible minds, and to be sustained it has to be nurtured." For Jahir and Vasiht'h, it started as mindtouches: brief impressions of the other's emotions and thoughts, often framed as a flavor, texture, sound, or other sensory experience. At first, such touches were involuntary; later, they could initiate them on purpose. The mindline is like a longer-lasting mindtouch, and it formed unpredictably at first. When Jahir and Vasiht'h committed to each other on Selnor, their mindline was "made permanent by vow and intent".

* ahv'shev: mindtouch
* et'ahv: mindline

Mindline Criteria
* consented to by both parties
* functional without effort, conscious or otherwise
* unbreakable by external agency
* capable of enabling its participants to be greater together than they might be if isolated
* blessed by the Goddess

Pattern Sensing
Extremely rare. Valthial tells Jahir that most people who tried to see the future went insane.

Valthial also tells Jahir that he suspects the reason Liolesa did not go insane was that it was gifted to her.

* ahv'shev: mindtouch
* et'ahv: mindline

Mindline Criteria
* consented to by both parties
* functional without effort, conscious or otherwise
* unbreakable by external agency
* capable of enabling its participants to be greater together than they might be if isolated
* blessed by the Goddess

A card game based around the deities, spirits, and religious figures of Pelted (and later human) religions. Renya is an expert at this game, through petitioning Kajentarel and the Battleangels; so too is Kerov.

Description
Originally the deck only included Pelted divine beings, but eventually an expansion set came out that included human ones. The deck was "ten years in the research and creation" as there are far more human divine beings than Pelted ones.

More expensive versions of the cards come with info-films; less expensive ones have a booklet.

Rules
The game is played by drawing a random condition card; if a player has a card they can play to match it, they do so. If one player can play a card and another can't, the first player gets the point. If neither or both players can, the round is a draw. If the round is a draw due to both players having relevant cards, the draw can be broken by playing a second relevant card from the hand, though this is risky as it more rapidly depletes the player's hand.

If the game is at a draw when the round ends, a second condition card will be drawn at random, and whichever player's already-played card matches best wins the round.

Rounds can be played "blind," where the condition card in play isn't known until after the deity cards have been chosen.
Divine beings from the Pelted deck
* we need to identify all of these. Two are said to defy identification but the others should be noted.

* Iley, god of the Tam-illee, depicted smirking
* Naem-fili, avatar of the Malarai, depicted with tears in her eyes
* "winged catlike women in pale robes" (Please identify)
* "fierce nude griffins all golden with loincloths of lake and gemstones" (Battleangels)
* "sinuous hexapedal half-ghost creatures in blue and rime-white." (Please identify)
* Christ, a man in brown robes with a halo, crouched before a pack of wolves (could be St. Francis from one legend or a Hinichi version of Christianity)

Divine beings from the human deck
* Since this game is matching deitys with conditions, the conditions need to be noted as well. Most here need to add that.

(with the condition cards they meet in Rayna's and Kerov's first game)
* Kali, a blue four-armed snaggle-toothed female
* St Francis of Assisi, a tonsured man in brown robes surrounded by animals (historical human)
* Athena, a grey-eyed woman in a white gown tied in gold cords bracketed with olive trees (presides over battle)
* (Orpheus? but no tights. Also doubtfully historical) "A man in tights with a harp and an open mouth" (can't place this one) (historical human)
* Kitsune, a pale woman in colorful flowing robes with no less than four fox tails
* Quetzalcoatl, a feathered snake (Please note what this matched)
* Coyote, a dancing man with what looked like the head of a Hinichi wolfine (sense of humor)
* Chac, a brown-skinned man surrounded in corn and rainclouds (tied to the seasons)
* Demeter, a plump woman with a basket of grain (tied to the seasons)
* Morrigan, a woman in a black gown with crows (presides over battle)
* (Ares? Or (less likely) Oden??) (presides over battle) "a fierce-looking man in a helmet, bearing a round shield"
* Thor, a heavily-muscled blond male with a hammer
* Venus, a sloe-eyed woman with a cocked hip and a knowing smile (preached love)
* Hestia, a friendly, round looking woman with elaborate curls (hearth-guardian)
* Christ, a human man, in brown robes and crowned in a halo (preached love, popular among other races)

Sample condition cards
* Sense of humor
* Esteemed for trickery
* Historically recorded as an actual human being
* Tied to the seasons
* Presides over battle
* Hearth-guardian
* Preached love
(Achieving ö depends on your equipment; in Windows, if you have a keyboard with a numeric keypad, you can hold down the "alt" key to the left of the spacebar and type 0246 on said keypad.)
That alt keyboard trick only sometimes works. Alternately, at great hassle, you can load a different keyboard in, hit the omlatted O, and load the std keyboard back in.

Appearance and Personality
A restless Asanii male, orange-eyed, brown tabby with white.

Biography
Ralafin was a ship's captain in the early days of Fleet (and well suited to its mission, since he was a restless sort who was happiest on the deck of a ship, doing something). An accident beached him on Selnor in 25 BA; while in convalescence he complained that such accidents were the result of a lack of standardization in training (and thus, expectations) amid the crew. At the time, Fleet had been in operation for 23 years, and was turning out ships as fast as they could build them, and his complaints found fertile ground. While he was grounded he was put on a commission to form a plan for the first Fleet Academe, which, due to his personality, he inevitably ended up leading. He was so foundational to its principles and plans, in fact, that he was inevitably named the Academe's first commandant, back when the campus was only a handful of buildings and a park (initial building completed in 26 BA). He barely lasted a year before he was ready to go, and since by then he was no longer invalided out, they sent him back into space and did a search for a more settled personality to continue his work.

He remains immortalized as the Academe's founder, and his first year (if one stretches the definition of a year to include the time spent on the commission) is held up as an example of responsibility in the face of an actionable problem. The fact that he didn't stay is tactfully glossed over. The park in the Selnor campus was renamed for him, but it does not include a statue of him because it wasn't built to honor him, initially.

Story Mentions
Alysha's Fall mentions Ralafin Park on Kindle page 42 of 188 (21%)
