you mean you didn't want a picture of the psychopath??

Former Fleet officer turned psychopath pirate queen.

Physical Characteristics

Kamaney is a Karaka'An with white fur, white hair, and "pale cream" claws.[1][2] She is "pale as a bloodless wound."[3] She has "cold eyes despite their golden hue."[4]

History

As the executive officer of a smallish ship at the time she crossed swords with Alysha, Kamaney should be around the same age or a little younger. Tentatively putting her birthdate at 437 BA, which would make her 44 years old at the time of the Chatcaavan War and her encounter with Sediryl. That would give her about 16 years to become queen of pirates. Wyatt's guess that pirates are trying to steal ships (462 BA) predates her escape into the underworld in 465, which suggests that someone else came up with that idea and was working it before she arrived and took over (probably making it more effective, given her insider's knowledge). Best candidate for that was Nolan, who was listed as her second in command in From Ruins.

Sword of the Alliance

Kamaney began as a Fleet officer. She and Pwyll Mansey were lovers, though she never felt anything more than fondness and pleasure in him.[5] Though Kamaney was definitively a sociopath, she was not wrong that their fraternization was an excuse to frame them.[6] Their captain Baerut Flait used that fact in part to frame them for greater crimes to cover up the bribes he himself was taking from Gledig's Governor Kerenkev to ignore the planet. At the same time, Brad Courtland located them and encouraged them to perform pirate raids on Gledig.[2]

As such, Kamaney and Pwyll, and their pirate ship the Scythe, were able to work without restraints on Gledig; Kamaney also attempted to increase their profits by purchasing slaves for the slave trade, to Pwyll's despair.[5] Pwyll also observed that the crew treated her as superior officer rather than him.[7]

When the Scythe entered orbit, Kamaney headed the raiding party to the surface in an armed shuttle, leaving Pwyll in orbit.[7] The shuttle landed and dropped off a small contingent of pirates, who then witnessed the Scythe's destruction due to Pwyll's deliberate suicide from the ground; Kamaney, though herself unhappy at being stranded on-planet without a space-capable vehicle to her name. responded by telling the small contingent of pirates who had landed that they were now free to take slaves, or rape and torment the inhabitants.[3] When her pirate contingent was killed by Dylan Brushnie and her shuttle destroyed by the Stardancer, leaving her no ready escape route, she hid in a ditch, deliberately injured herself, and used some of the blood to imply that she had been both injured and raped.[2]

Kamaney's ruse succeeded. She was treated as a patient in the Daleth clinic and was not recognized as one of the attacking pirates, and was eventually able to leave the planet.[8]

Trivia

  • Unsurprisingly, swears a lot. Seems to prefer 'rhack.'[5]
  • As of Sword of the Alliance, she had already had a cloak designed to her specifications.[6]
  • Kamaney enjoys deliberately baiting her crew, specifically by using Fleet titles, because "better to know where you stand with them than to wonder."[9]

Quotes

  • "There’s no bright sunny future where we end up officers on a cruise ship. We can’t man so much as a garbage ship after what they said about us. The only ‘merchant operation’ we’ve got left if we want to stay in space is this merchant operation. So it’s illegal… it’s all they left us.” When he didn’t answer, she curled her hands into fists. “Pwyll! They wronged us! You don’t owe them anything! Make them pay!"[5]
  • "The universe was unfair. Now that she knew just how rigged the game was, she planned to be one of the winners. And every game with a winner needed losers."[6]
