Overview
How the Alliance views and handles education and how this is promulgated throughout the various parts of the Alliance (from Core to colonies).
Educational Models
It seems evident that there are a multiplicity of schooling models available, and very probably no centralized requirement that applies throughout the Alliance, on every planet. There's probably a set of benchmarks that all children are required to meet (literacy, history, civics, math), but beyond that, educational attainment might be a subcultural choice, or dictated by intended career paths.
- Alysha's Fall mentions Alysha's school (high school equivalent) in "Impetus". There's a graduation ceremony (that involves a mortarboard), and seniors are still called seniors.[1]
- There's stuff in Dreamstorm about the various educational models for medical personnel that can go here (KindlesFlame or Palland was explaining it, I think).
- There should be details in "A Distant Sun" since that was set at a school.

- When Jahir asks KindlesFlame, "I suppose the cost of schooling is also one of those things that varies depending on where one is," KindlesFlame answers, "Most worlds are fairly elastic. Where things become less so is when you cross boundaries. Just like in everything else, the interstitial spaces are difficult to bridge. So someone who might have a good living where they were born might have to make sacrifices to live on some other world."[3]
- Starbase Veta's city-sphere has a "primary school" system, which has a principal, a school board, donors.[4] Ametia later observes that the primary school system is "more nimble," going on to say: "It’s that the system isn’t interested in retention the way the university is. Universities... you can attend forever, if you have the money and interest. And the school wouldn’t mind keeping you coming back for yet another degree, if you can afford it. But these primary schools... the kits keep moving, so there’s less fighting over their money. Once they’re here, you only get so much out of them and then they’re gone. The focus has to be on the education, not the student."[5]
Technology
Things like the u-banks go here, and other ways technology is used to assist learning. (Look up Kellen Grove's use of the projector for the Touchground festival in "A Distant Sun").
- "The science departments all have amphitheater-style immersive 3deo viewers. I'm only asking for a projection model." And later: "To begin, I'd like to broadcast the Touchground festivals on Tam-ley next month. And then there's the archeology summit on Karaka'Ana, and the university-sponsored debate on the artificial creation of the Core languages just after the diaspora, and the gengineered complications conference...."[6]
