The very first Glaseah design, from 1990

Four legs, two arms, two wings, floofy ears, what's not to like?

Pronounced either glah-SEH-ah or glah-SAY-ah.[1]

Biology

Glaseah were created by the first and second generation Pelted, rather than by humanity. This was a highly controversial decision, but some Pelted saw the good intents of Project Homefront and wanted to improve upon it.

Glaseah are centauroid, leonine, short, and stocky, with most not being taller than 5'4". They are always skunk-patterned (either striped or spotted) and are brown, black, or gray pelted; golden Glaseah have been seen but are very rare. They have paws with retractable claws, four fingers, feathered ears (with fairly poor hearing), and wings similar to bats which cannot support their weight for flight. They also have two hearts.[2] Some may be born without wings and are known as sef-Glaseah.

A coloring page featuring some basic information about the Glaseah

Most Glaseah are espers, being able to read minds and communicate mentally. Almost all Glaseah are calm, compassionate, and family-oriented, and can live over 200 years. Many become teachers or scientists due to their level-headed natures.

Most Glaseah are asexual, due to a greatly reduced amount of hormone levels. This has resulted in the Glaseah seeing reproduction as a duty of their people, and often requiring either religiously-trained individuals or technology to assist in the process. Many families have 15 or more children

The wingless Glaseah are known as sef-Glaseah and were originally intended to breed true to correct for the awkwardness of the Pelted engineers' earlier, winged design. But the Glaseah preferred themselves as their Goddess dreamt them first, and convinced their designers politely to stop messing with the Goddess's plans. The engineers made the winged trait dominant, and the sef variant remains rare.

Religion

Aksivaht'h

Most Glaseah worship the Mother, Aksivaht'h, who is said to have thought the universe into life. Aksivaht'h represents both male and female, but is most often called the Goddess. The Glaseah have various ways of honoring their goddess:

  • Wind chimes, hung outside of children's rooms, workshops, and places where new things or ideas are being created: "It’s a way for us to manifest the evidence of the Goddess: She breathes, and Her breath moves the chimes."[3]
  • Paper effigies of the Goddess.[4]
  • Small altars, sometimes made on the spur of the moment, which can contain small representations of the Goddess (such as a paper effigy), incense, and food offerings.[4]

Religious Stories

The Glaeasah also have other figures who appear in their religious stories. The creation myth tells of Yuvreth't[footnotes 1], the first of the Glaseahn race, and his mate Slesvra. In the story, Yuvreth't asked Aksivaht'h to be turned into male and female so that they could have children, and for thought like the Goddes (as in, to become espers). He also asked her for wings, long legs, keen noses, large ears, farseeing eyes, and to be colorful like flowers for camoflage, and hands to make tools. The Goddess told him that this was far too many things, and told him to choose two. Yuvreth't consulted with his mate Slesvra, who suggested taking the gifts of the mind and the hands.[5]

Yuvreth't did so, but decided that it was not good enough to have the mind and the hands but to be ugly, so he sneaked into the Goddess's gift trove and stole all the other gifts as well. Slevsra thought that this was wrong, and went to tell the Goddess what he had done. The Goddess was not angry, as Yuvreth't was trying to help his race, so she allowed him to keep his keen smell and sight as reward for boldness and cleverness; legs and wings but not in the way he had wanted (short legs and flightless wings), as a reminder that wishes are not always fulfilled in the way you want or expect; but keen hearing was taken twice, so that the Glaseah would have poor hearing, for the sake of balance. The colored coat she left behind, but when she set them back on the earth she did so too quickly; the night sky blackened them as they fell, and the stars they used to brake their fall burned their backs and breasts white[5].

Vasiht'h noted that there were more stories of the pair, including one where they briefly got their colored coats back.[5]

Siv't

A siv't is a Glaseahn place of worship. Most are small to medium sized, but the large ones are where the Glaseahn reproduction is done.

Major Siv't

The four major siv't on Anseahla, the only ones large enough to house the labs and creches for Temple Kits.

  • Acts
  • Breath
  • Thought
  • Words

Shrines

Known as satellites, sometimes.

  • The campus siv't at Seersana University is a shrine, featuring a carved altar and a panel behind it, depicting the Goddess's face in profile, blowing the breath of life from Her lips. Slow-burning incense on the altar sometimes swirled into arabesques when drafts came in from the overhead window met the smoke, mimicking the divine breath.

Rites

Put the rites of passage here.

  • Birth - copy this part out of Heartskein, with the breathparents
  • "Leaving the House"/Coming of age
  • Marriage
  • Death

The Temple Kit Process

An individual goes to the local temple to request addition to the queue for available surrogates, after which they are assigned to several days' worth of information sessions in order to prepare them to make better choices about how many kits they want and how involved they want to be with the temple surrogate. Afterwards, the individual is set loose to await their turn in the queue.[6]

Language

The Glaseah mostly abandoned the language the Seersa created for them, but their names often carry over its legacy.

  • Accepted Consonants: p, b, f, v, th, t, d, s, z, sh, k, g, h, hh, j, r, l, m, n.
  • Accepted Vowels: ah, eh, oh, uh, ih, ii.

Naming Conventions

"Glaseah get all the glottal stops and consonants. While they are supposed to have family names, they rarely use them, and it’s more often ‘I’m so-and-so. You know, so-and-so’s kid.’"[7]

Trivia

Have a slight musty scent in morning (pre-shower), like an old book, but warmer. Reminded Jahir of horses. [8]
