== Background ==

As an ensign, Jae'en's first assignment was aboard a [[Parallel Class Warcruiser |warcruiser]], where he assisted the training officers. He later expressed a desire to serve on smaller ships in the future.<ref name="wiw-ch05">''[[Who is Willing (Fiction) |Who is Willing]],'' chapter 5</ref> 

==Recent History==

Jae'en was the first to invite [[Alysha Forrest]] to the Songlance's lieutenant skullbash, and to warn her about issues with [[Mike Beringwaite]] aboard the ship.<ref name="wiw-ch01" /> He took pleasure in helping new people fit in, and was good at it, in part through exaggerated mannerisms and a strong sense of humor; he also discouraged people talking about Beringwaite behind his back in a mean-spirited fashion.<ref name="wiw-ch02">''[[Who is Willing (Fiction) |Who is Willing]],'' chapter 2</ref> He also started a good-natured betting pool about how long Alysha would spend in the water environment. <ref name="wiw-ch05" /> When [[Serra FindaWrench]] proposed a bet that Alysha would be the first to make it to admiral, Alysha said that her bet was on Jae'en.<ref name="wiw-ch07">''[[Who is Willing (Fiction) |Who is Willing]],'' chapter 7</ref>
