Quafiirla

(Pulled this out of a Patreon post and did a little light editing; note that it may be out of date, as the Patreon post calls them "original notes" from over twenty years ago.)

One of two current homeworlds of the Faulfenza, along with Quapendai. The two planets are part of an true double-planet system referred to collectively as Qufiil, and is known to be geologically unstable in the very long term. These planets became the species' homeworld after their original homeworld, Quzen, was rendered uninhabitable due to overpopulation and poor resource management.

Both planets were/are .5 g heavier than ours; Quzen was 2/3 water, and has bred powerful swimmers.

Quafiirla is the planet where the old ways are preserved. The First Favored Dancer, ruler of the Seeker's planet, coordinates with the OverDancer the fostering of the technological youth. They are fostered so that they can gain a sense of their tradition, their history and old-culture. From about 40 yrs. to 60 yrs (their adolesence), before they return if they wish to the technological planet.

Each village has a line of power.

1. FireMother (usually an Old female) (Fauldii)
2. Little Dance Teacher (Quadii'zafiri) usually a young male - and Wisdomdancer ( (Quazafir), usually an old male.
3. Favored Dancer (Fiil'zafir) (can be any age or sex)

The FireMother is the head of each village, the one with power, the 'president' if you would. She makes the ultimate decisions.

The WisdomDancer is the keeper of the scrolls (a separate building in the middle of the village, outside of which is the dancing ground, which is the direct center of the village).

The Little Dance Teacher is the one who supervises the teaching of the youth and the steeping of their traditions.

The Favored Dancer is the dancer chosen by the people and approved by the FireMother to be the one who dances the scrolls. It is VERY unusual for the FireMother to NOT approve of the chosen dancer, even if it is not her choice.

The Reading of a Wisdom scroll requires two things: a drum and a dancer. The scrolls are divided into different categories, each of which have a specific drumbeat. The Dancer then 'reads' the scroll, using a complex language made up of dance steps and a complicated sign language that involves mostly hands but also ears and tail and other body parts. Dancers are like Bards, every scroll of knowledge must be learned and practiced like a song. It takes many years to become a Dancer...almost thirty, if the one has a talent for it.

It takes ten to fifteen years to become a drummer.
