Starbase Ne

The starbase in Sector Ne, with the Phoenix hosting as this is the sector with their homeworld. Vasiht'h visited here while planning the emigration of his family.

Primary City Sphere

"Starbase Ne’s primary city dome had been built to please its host species, so it had been sculpted into rising terraces of green hills, stairstepped all the way up to the inner wall where the staggered platforms of the inner hull had taken over. Sediryl had engaged the top of one of these terraces, with a commanding view of the entire slope of the city down to its rolling fields and distant watercourses. That latter had stolen Vasiht’h’s breath when he’d first seen it; the segregation between water and land habitats had been more typical in the starbases he’d seen. The miniature river delta at the far end of Ne’s city sphere must have required a fantastical effort to balance and maintain in a closed environment." The starbase has a much larger Phoenix population than average, and the air smells faintly of cinnamon at night. There are tiny bioluminescent "shark"-like fliers who are active at night; native to Phoenix-Nest, they were imported to the starbase, where the Phoenix built air-gardens to attract them.(These creatures are all female until one of them is chosen as a mate, then it becomes male).

Vasiht'h's take on it: "This place is in a direct line from the Eldritch homeworld to the Bright Belt worlds, so I’m betting it’s going to be their new staging area for any routes between us and Selnor, or the Doubled Worlds, or… well, any of that stuff. Not to say they won’t also establish relationships in those other places. But they’re going to want refueling and waystations between them and the middle of the Core.”

Locations/Landmarks

• Ciracaana-food-themed restaurant: is like an open gazebo, with rectangular, trough-like pits for patrons to grill their own food; is actually run by a Seersa and her Phoenix partner, because the Seersa went to Ciracaa and fell in love with the food and the aesthetic.
• Local Ice Cream "event": a soft-serve ice cream shop that is never in the same location from day to day, and leaves treasure hunt-like hints in the city.
• Phoenixae windchime shop: where Vasiht'h bought out the inventory.

Trivia

• Has introduced small animals native to Phoenix-Nest, reminiscent of both hummingbirds and sharks, that glow and sparkle to attract mates, as a proof of fitness. Naturally hermaphroditic, they become a specific sex when chosen by a mate.
