Quotes

"Always check your premises."

Throwing these here so I can remember to put them in the descriptions later. "Her only happy memories of winter were of her early childhood, when she’d been young enough to sit on her father’s lap and listen to him read stories. They’d been similar to the ones she’d found so frustrating at court, but unlike those tales, his had lacked melodrama. He’d told her believable stories, where heroism involved a single man facing down a maddened boar, or a woman swimming into a lake to rescue her drowning daughter. By the time she’d heard the stories of knights facing down dragons—dragons!—and ladies dying for their broken hearts, she’d been prepared to dismiss them all as hyperbolic. And then she’d fallen into a story more dramatic than any tale out of court, and survived it, and been forced to admit that sometimes things really were a matter of life or death. She still didn’t like the dramatic stories. Much. The ones with the romances were a little bit more palatable now. But her father had taught her that heroism was common, and often hidden, in the everyday, and he had acted like the heroes of his stories." [1]
