Hood is the senior of the Platies on the UAV Songlance, and in charge of navigation.
Physical Characteristics
Hood is an enormous, dark presence, as large as a Recurve-class shuttle, "like an enormous curtain, one large enough for a theater."[1] He inspires awe in Alysha[1] and, later Mike Beringwaite.[2]
Recent History
Hood is the primary Platy navigator for the UAV Songlance.[1] When in the navigation chamber, with its extremely strong current, Hood is referred to as being "in the flow."[3] During Alysha Forrest's tenure on the Songlance, Hood catalyzed Algae to begin to grow and become a male. Hood likes Alysha, "because you make an effort."[4] After Alysha Forrest and Mike Beringwaite dealt with the pirates on the ship, Hood passed along his thanks for helping to "clean" the water (a term referring to emotional rather than physical cleanliness), and assisted with choosing an aquatic-style name for them.[2]
