Lunet with Bippity Boppity Two

Surela Silin Asaniefa's daughter, the shapeshifting Chatcaavan girl. Considered one of the children of the Fallowtide.

Appearance and Personality

"Her eyes had settled into their adult color, a scintillating peridot green, as cheerful as the new grass growing around her pudgy legs." [1]

Shapechanging female. Going through a bow phase. Bows on the horns! Bows on the tail! Bows on dresses! Bows on the Flitzbe! (who "hangs onto them" with its neural fur, so the bow just... sticks to it.) Likes to paint her claws rainbow colors, with glitter.

Shapes

  • At the time of her trip offworld, Lunet knows how to become a Tam-illee, Glaseah, Harat-Shar, Hinichi, Guardkin, Phoenix, Eldritch, and Human.

Biography

Born in 481 BA in early autumn (labor began during transit between Starbase Psi and Escutcheon, in the Earthrise's cargo bay).[2] The inspiration for her name was provided by her mother, to honor Thaniet, whose mother called her 'little gift.'[3] (Reese named her Lunet, which means gift in Chatcaavan; she thought it sounded Eldritchy. But the name as given is pronounced "loon EHT" while the Chatcaavan word is pronounced "LOON iht" (and so should probably be spelled luunit), so the Chatcaava don't realize what she intended.) She was given to the care of Reese Eddings, Surela's liegelady, shortly after her birth, because the political situation in the Alliance made it risky to raise a Chatcaavan child abroad; her mother judged she would be safer on Escutcheon, where she would also have the benefit of growing up alongside other children.[3]

Had a cheerful disposition, even as an infant, and grew up into a sunny child.

Her nurse was Sojourner Stars, and her bodyguard was literally Bodyguard.

Went abroad determinedly to meet her mother by disguising herself as multiple species and then hiding in a cargo crate;[4] her adventures there led her to befriend the crew of the Earthrise, then multiple Chatcaava (who offered to teach her to fire shipboard lasers)[5], and a budding mind-mage (the lady Fasianyl).[6]

Timeline

As calculated by Julika:

Lunet's age in months:

  • 0. early autumn (9 months after coup, 4 months after engagement of Jahir and Sediryl) -- Lunet's birth
  • 8. late spring -- wedding (and conception of Lisinthir's babies)
  • 9. early summer -- investiture
  • 12. early autumn -- Lunet's first birthday
  • 13. mid-autumn -- Anseahla (birth of Vasiht'h's babies)
  • 18. early spring -- Lisinthir's babies

"Given the identical gestational length of Chatcaava, Eldritch, and human, one would assume similar developmental timelines after birth, right? So [at the time of Dragons' Fealty] she should be running around and babbling." [7]

Quotes

  • "Am I a credit to you, Mother? Mistress Felith said children should always be a credit to their parents. Because otherwise, they will be sent to a convent to be INTERRED."[8]
  • "I don’t know… if I had a tragical past it would be a great comfort to me. But I suppose things are different when you’re grown-up. So I’m glad I’m not grown-up yet."[6]
  • "I’m in our room! But I was in MistressDanica’s when I fell asleep. Did I sleepwalk? Oh, how exciting! I’ve always wanted to sleepwalk!"[5]
  • "Mother! They say they want to teach me Chatcaavan naval procedures! Doesn’t that sound exciting? I could learn to fire shipboard lasers!"[9]
  • Obviously EVERY child thinks their mother’s the prettiest. But it’s such a relief when they don’t have to work at believing it, don’t you think? You are pretty, Mother, so I don’t have that problem. Thank goodness.[9]

Trivia

  • Has one of Allacazam's children: Bippity Boppity Two. (Bippity Boppity One is back home with someone else.)
  • Loves to read and as a young child, not only copied vocabulary into notebooks, but had her own unique take on the stories; likes ghoulish and dramatical ones best
