The human intelligence agent who likes muffins. Mina Brown's partner.

Appearance and Personality

Light brown skin, closely cropped dark curls, eyes a bronzed brown. [1] (Laniis Baker thinks of his eyes as whiskey colored.[2]) Jahir thinks of him as having a "striking appearance" and wonders how it's possible that he can melt so effectively into the background anyway; Laniis thinks he's everyman-looking, and forgettable.

Doesn't think yelling at people is a good way of persuading them (this is a recurring theme, both when he didn't want to coerce Jahir into codetalking, and advised Laniis not to make her case so strenuously to Fleet Medical). Characterizes himself (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) as a "sneaky human spy."[2] "Jahir saw in his eyes the long experience that centuries gave his own kind, and without the excuse of those years. What had the human seen, to have faced such shadows?"[1]

Biography

Currently lent out to Special Forces, something he agreed to because he believed the Chatcaavan war was inevitable. Part of the Eldritch Code Talking support team; during that session he was in favor of rescuing Bethsaida even if those actions would endanger the Pelted mission of not inspiring a war with the Chatcaava--"we should be protecting our allies, not abandoning them". It is also implied during this episode that he's met Lisinthir (when Jahir asks him if he's met "the ambassador", Dawson grins). The author suspects he might even have suggested the codetalking endeavor, based on his commentary about it. ("And while code talkers are a fantastic level of obfuscation for this kind of communication—one that goes way, way back, all the way into my history, and it’s turned some significant tides for us—we can get by without your help. But it would help.")[1]

Later, he and his partner were hired as contractors by the Eldritch, [3] and it was while Jahir and Vasiht'h were laying over to pick them up (among other contractors), that they ran into Montie and Mina during the riot that Vasiht'h stopped.[3]

You do that, and you’ll find healing. Not in war, because violence doesn’t heal. But in your brothers- and sisters-in-arms.
