Phoenix-Nest

The Phoenix homeworld; it is one of the worlds with sufficiently low gravity for Phoenix to fly unaided.

This is poorly organized but I wanted to put it somewhere while I had the references on hand.

City Layout and Architecture

Buildings are built on platforms, which are themselves on very tall poles. A platform could contain a single dwelling or many buildings on tiers or "stacks." Phoenix city platforms have no railings.

The buildings themselves look, from the outside, "like birdhouses, painted in ivory and gold and tan with hip-and-gable roofs in brick red or rich brown. Banners flew from their upturned eaves, and each floor had a landing balcony, leading through large round doors to the buildings’ interiors," and surrounded by fountains, plants and potted trees, and rock gardens. Some areas have hanging gardens. On the inside, they have ramps rather than stairs, and rather than discrete floors they contain tiers that look "a beehive? Crossed with a terrace?"

Travel

Phoenix, of course, have no difficulty maneuvering their cities, as they can fly.

Most non-flying visitors travel from platform to platform via Pad, but for some ceremonial occasions lines are used instead--the same lines originally used by the first Alliance ambassador to Phoenix-Nest, though constantly upkept. The lines function by strapping the passenger in, then dropping or raising a counterweight on the other side to raise or lower them.
