Blurb

Trust Your Peers....

...unless, of course, one of them is a rogue flouting Fleet's already lax regulations. But stowaways are the least of the Stardancer's issues when they are assigned to investigate a mysterious area of space at the behest of an alien allied power. What will the Stardancer find in the depths of the Sargasso? And will it give them reason to dedicate themselves to Fleet's military mission, as their captain hopes, or to decide that defending the Alliance is someone else's responsibility?

In Good Company, the sixth Alysha Forrest novel, returns to deep space and the adventure of finding new worlds and new discoveries. And if there might be an AI or two... what's the Alliance without its many peoples?

Summary

The Stardancer and crew get a mission: Map the stars/worlds in the Sargasso. After some prep they do, and encounter 10 dead worlds, ((One of which but unknown which) likely to be the first home of the Faulfenza, but not known in this book). An D-per gets aboard, looking for some of his hobbies: confirming that slides exist. They find one living world, have adventures, encounter natives who fear that their arrival will trigger something bad, get almost catastrophically locked out of their ship because they harbor an AI who looks like he is acting criminal, recover ship, get off world, confront those that locked them out. Much more.

  • The mission, from the viewpoint of different books, seems to me to be alerting the Alliance as to what is in the Sargasso, as the Faulfenza have their world nearby, and likely have explored some of this space themselves, having about 300+ years looking for their lost kin. (Sean)

Names of ten dead worlds given by crew

"Protect people," Star supplied gently.
