General

Described as a planet of turquoise oceans, rust-red continents with belts of shimmering gold desert and yellow-green forests, and brilliant clouds. And looking bright from orbit. [1]

Two moons the size of our moon (doubled planet), and a smaller one that has been postulated to be an asteroid caught in the gravity pull of that moon. The former are white Sarkeiyon, and is considered to be the home of the Angels and orange Leipedon, the home of the Inverse Angels, and the latter is the blue Falfeyon, or the Battle Home, where the Angels war against each other.

History

Settled in 2475 AD (4 BA), three years after the development of the Well Drive. Harat-Sharii was the fourth homeworld settled (the fifth planet, which counts the capital planet, Selnor) after the Exodus.

Geography

[Mostly ocean, mostly dry land, mostly temperate (by Terran standards), mostly hot and jungle-y, low gravity, high gravity, oxygen rich or poor. etc. etc. Landmasses.]

Flora

  • rooderberries [2]
  • flowers "so tiny their blossoms seemed more like lilac spatters off a paint brush." They smell spicy, "like sandalwood and ember bark"[1]
  • tendriled plants (some reaching from outside to coil along the inside walls of Sascha and Irine's family's home in Zhedeem)[1]
  • exotic lilies (in the water gardens at Sascha and Irine's family's home in Zhedeem)[1]

Fauna

  • greerhorns (sort of like crickets, which sing at night) [1]
  • butterflies, orange[1]
  • black lizards[1]
  • tiny fish and other less familiar creatures (in the water gardens at Sascha and Irine's family's home in Zhedeem)[1]

Landmarks

Apparently has hanging gardens. Extensive ones, because they 'weren't built in a day', according to Darya. [3]

  • The city of Zhedeem has a sizable offworlder population. It's one of the few places that serves tourists and non-native residents. It is a town of low buildings and many fountains between palms and other trees. Market Avenue is the largest street, in the middle of everything; the port is at the end of it. [1]

From Earthrise: The air that rushed in smelled of incense, exotic spices, burgeoning plant-life waxy with green life over arid heat.

They set their cities underground.

The heat inspired sweat on Reese.

Houses

...lined with windowsset over the ground level. The fans on the ceilings wisper a soft Whuff-whuff. With fountains, plants cared for, Purfumed flowers. Large windows at ground level, high ceilings an dfans. Lovingly tended plants line the corridors, some reaching frim outsied to coil tendrils along the inside walls. Each hall seemed to branch into a shaded terrace, a sheltered alcove, a perfuned garden. Multilevel dwelings.

Government and Politics=

One of the few Core planets to have its own system defense fleet, the Homeguard.

People and Society

All the stuff that gets explained about their indenture system in Earthrise should get cut and pasted here.

Slavery

Slavery, their style, not illegal on their planet. Hirianthial thought it akin to feudal service, and the slaves are on contracts and are content.

Stereotypes

As a stereotype, homeworld Hari-Shar are hypersexualized. (Colony HS are not)

Quotes

"Home is warm," Irene said.

"Home is hot," Sascha amended. "But there are wonderful open houses with stone tiles warm beneath your feet," Irene said. "And with fluttering scarves to filter the hardest sunlight and turn it colors. and there's always fruit, the juicest melons, all cool and crisp and fti to put streams down your chin." "And water," Irene said. ... "Water splashing in fountains, really soft. And birds at the fountains, bright birds with curious eyes that will eat berries from your fingers."
