Small One (Character)
A Small One, the last of his kind and one of the two sentient races of Amity.
Physical Characteristics
As a Small One, he has a pointed, wedge-shaped head with large dark eyes, six limbs, an extremely flexible spine, and communicates via hisses, whistles, peeps, and trills. His scent is reminiscent of warm pepper.[1]
Recent History
The Small One was first encountered by Taylitha Basil, who noticed him watching her in the dark. She tried to communicate with him, and him with her, but she startled him and he fled. Taylitha and a crew of assistants pursued and cornered him in a gully, but he escaped by climbing the rock walls, a feat they did not expect him capable of. Later, however, he approached Taylitha again, tried to speak to her, and then collapsed.[1]
Once brought to the UAV Stardancer's Medplex, the Small One awoke and panicked, ultimately to be calmed by Taylitha's presence.[2]. He was relocated to the gardens along with Jewel Thandry and Stardancer linguists, where he became catatonic and unresponsive until Taylitha once again arrived to soothe him.[3]
Trivia
- Though the Small One's sex is unknown (Laelkii theorizes that he is an immature member of his species, with undeveloped sexual organs), male pronouns are consistently used for him.
- Carries a spear.[1]
