Mars
Originally an Earth colony, until the Mars/Earth War.
Geography
Domed habitats. The domes are clear plexiglass but thick enough to distort. Reese's hometown dome supports about a thousand people. [1]
The center of Reese's hometown has the Liberty Wall, which is covered in tiles bearing the names of financial contributors. [2]
Cities and Landmarks
- Deimos Station - built on the moon, has "restaurants, shops, gardens... all the conveniences of the Alliance. I bet there's even a way to entertain a Harat-Shar, if you go to the wrong places." There are shuttles from it to Landing One (which still rattle). [1]
- Landing One was the first established city, and Landing Port has high ceilings crossed with gray girders (no windows). "Landing had been built when humans had been lucky to reach Mars, much less cling there."[1]
Society
The custom of selling tiles to fund the maintenance and rebuilding of Mars's habitats and ports is as old as its colonization. The coveted Founders' Stones require having proof of continuous residency since the emancipation, plus a considerable sum to pay into the pot. [2]
Some families still follow the post-war Martian practice of all-female families; they send away for an anonymous sperm sample and have daughters only. Seven generations of the Eddings family have lacked a father. [3]
