Jae'en
Jae'en is an Aera lieutenant on the UAV Songlance.
Physical Characteristics
Jae'en is a male Aera with a pelt "the shocking red of embers," edged in sandy fur that also rimmed his long ears.[1]
Background
As an ensign, Jae'en's first assignment was aboard a warcruiser, where he assisted the training officers. He later expressed a desire to serve on smaller ships in the future.[2]
Recent History
Jae'en was the first to invite Alysha Forrest to the Songlance's lieutenant skullbash, and to warn her about issues with Mike Beringwaite aboard the ship.[1] He took pleasure in helping new people fit in, and was good at it, in part through exaggerated mannerisms and a strong sense of humor; he also discouraged people talking about Beringwaite behind his back in a mean-spirited fashion.[3] He also started a good-natured betting pool about how long Alysha would spend in the water environment. [2] When Serra FindaWrench proposed a bet that Alysha would be the first to make it to admiral, Alysha said that her bet was on Jae'en.[4]
When Alysha asked Jae'en why Beringwaite didn't attend the skullbashes, Jae'en noted that he had invited Beringwaite and been rebuffed, and that she was willing to try herself if she wanted.[4] She did so, and eventually Beringwaite did show up to attend, [5]
