Acorn

The original tenant village attached to Rose Point, in what was once Firilith Province, which is now Laisrathera Province.

History

It is distinct from the Rose Point Forecourt which has grown up around the actual castle. Natives of this town call themselves the nasainirilin or "tenders of an orchard."

Geography and Architecture

The distance between the castle and village is enough that it takes the villagers several hours to walk it, thus Reese gifts Shoran Dern Eddings with a horse.

Town

A small church opens onto a stone circle, and from it spreads a village green complete with small pond and charming shops and public halls. There is a daily market on the central greensward, and tame, loose birds (chickens and geese) wandering through that people like to feed.

The Pad station has been installed in an abandoned house on a corner.

• Cafe overlooking the central sward; cook is Nemulin Dasiin Eddings; her mother, Ivali Dasiin Eddings, also works there. The cafe does good business in the morning, slackens off until the noon lunch hour, and then quiets again during the "sleepy hours" between the Pelted lunch hour and the mid-afternoon hours the Eldritch use to walk out with friends.

Family tree for Acorn's tenants

Acorn's Eldritch population at the time of Reese's arrival as lady was 28 (only one of whom is a teen, the boy); these twenty-eight individuals belonged to four families living in three houses (with the priestess living in the residence attached to the church). The town was originally build to hold at least 500 people. Acorn now has a mixed residency of Eldritch, humans (from Reese's Martian family), Tam-illee from the Meriaen families, Harat-Shar attracted by Irine and Sascha, and a cross-section of aliens who'd arrived at Kis'eh't's invitation to join her research team.

Known/Named Residents

Bain Family

The remainder of the Bain family consists of 7 individuals:

• Sela Bain Eddings (former senior manse servant, now learning healing) and Thanor Bain Eddings, Sela's husband.
• Lani and Mathen Bain Eddings, Sela's parents.
• Theryl Bain Eddings, Sela's aunt (Lani's sister).
• Mylla and Tamis (Toral) Eddings, Thanor's parents.

The Toral family is completely defunct; when the last of them died, Mylla and Tamis moved in with their son, Thanor, and took his wife's family name.

Dasiin Family

The living members of the Dasiin family consist of five members:

• Nemulin Dasiin Eddings
• Ivali Dasiin Eddings (Mother of Nemulin. It is mentioned that she was old enough to have seen the first generation of Eldritch die fighting the basilisks in the area.) (HW)
• Ivali's cousin Alis Dasiin and her husband Desthen, and their daughter, Soril Dasiin.

Ivali's deceased husband was Dasor Nod; his sister was the priestess Ijiliin Nod, the last of her family. While Alis, Desthen and Soril Dasiin live in the Dasiin family home, Ivali and Nemulin chose to live with Ijiliin in the church annex.

Dern Family

The Dern family was the largest living Eldritch family left in Acorn prior to Reese's arrival, and consisted of 8 members:

• Ceran Dern, the Senior Land Servant, and his wife, Rina
• their children, Norin (m) and Nethor (m), and Nethor's wife, Sielle
• Shoran Dern Eddings, Nethor and Sielle's son, and the senior beastmaster
• Sielle's parents, Asel (f) and Rimes (m)

Sielle's parents, having lost their family, took the Dern name and moved in with Ceran and Rina.

Nod Family

• Ijiliin Nod Eddings, priestess. The only member of the Nod family left.

Sura Family

The remainder of the Sura family at the time of Laisrathera's founding consists of 7 members:

• Pyria (the senior seal servant) and Elin Sura, the daughters of (deceased Lina, Meander Mistress, and Rolyn)
• Pyria's husband, Maran, and their son Talthien Sura Eddings
• Elin's husband Kinor, and their daughter Liral Sura Eddings
• Madris Dath) Eddings, Maran's mother.

Madris gave up her family name after her husband's death, and was taken in by Sura.

Talthien is (was) the youngest member of the community prior to the arrival of Reese and the restoration of Firilith under the Laisrathera banner.
