Carevei HawkFreed
Carevei HawkFreed, formerly Carevei EarthHunger, is a tam-illee geologist who joined the Lifehawk Tribe of nomadic Ciracaana after undergoing one of their religious rituals and finding a new life purpose.
Physical Characteristics
Carevei has topaz eyes and dusty, tawny taupe fur; her hair is "the color of a panther's back" and does not blend into the grasses of the Lifehawk Tribe's territory[1] She was always tall and leggy, but grew more rangy and muscular after a decade on Ciracaa, and had always had a personality that seemed larger than her body.[2]
History
Family
Carevei lost her mother during an earthquake when she was four years old, partially contributing to her study as a seismologist and her initial FoundName, "EarthHunger." She later joined the Lifehawk Tribe, taking a new FoundName, "HawkFreed.[1]" In her new tribe, she became something close to a family member to Ylriasna Sunhawk, but when her dearest friend Rayne came with her own family in search of Carevei, Carevei chose to split time between the two.[2]
Recent History
Carevei attended school first as a chemist, but switched to seismology, and after graduating with a degree in that field she was sent from her relatively earthquake-free home of Tam-ley to Nguva, the Northern-hemisphere spaceport city of Ciracaa, and ultimately to warn the Lifehawk Tribe of a dangerous earthquake. Because she was an offworlder, or Starfallen, the tribe's Sun Mother required her to undergo the Rite of the Vessel before their tribe would listen to her warning. She did so, with the help of Ylrisiasna, a ritual painter, and had a psychogenic or religious epiphany in which she encountered the Lifehawk and it marked her. The Lifehawk tribe was then willing to listen to her, and she elected to join them and change her FoundName to "HawkFreed."[1]
Some ten years later, Carevei's closest friend before joining the Ciracaana visited her. Rayne brought her three children, and asked Carevei to join her as a platonic partner. With Ylriasna's encouragement, Carevei chose to split her time between Rayne on Tam-ley and the Lifehawk Tribe on Ciracaa.
