Grandmother of Nieve, mother of Elise, and mother-in-law of Deron.
Appearance and Personality
"A Tam-illee, with felt-short fur the fine, bright gray of a fog in spring. He recognized her from her eyes."[1]
Biography
Inès lost her daughter untimely, but remained close with her son-in-law and granddaughter. She refers to Jahir as "young prince," though she is fully aware that he is technically older than she is. She loves poetry, just as her granddaughter and son-in-law do, and her FoundName is a poetry reference to Wordsworth: "And then my heart with pleasure fills, / And dances with the daffodils".[1]
Inès officiated at Nieve's funeral, as oldest surviving member of the family. [2]
Quotes
- "I'm old, young prince. From this side of a life, you speak of many things with great equanimity, no matter how much they pain you."[1]
- "Nieve told me that it was a wonderful world, when you could meet a stranger over a jump-rope and have him turn into a friend. [...] She said it was proof that there was magic everywhere, just waiting."[2]
- "Life goes on. [...] Remember that, old alien, when you feel too much pain. [...] The only sense you can make of it, aletsen, is the sense you give it in your own heart. And like everything, you can choose to use those things to grow twisted or straight."[2]
