Order of the Universe

Page for the holiday, it has a history I need to cut and paste in here, and I think in the Stardancer series there's some talk about lining up in the calendar (or maybe that was in Mindtouch)

Some people use it as a sort of...Christmas substitute, I guess, but a lot of people celebrate it in tandem with their own religious holidays. It's about how underneath all the seeming chaos of the universe, there are scientific laws that bind everything together into a great harmony. Part of the celebration is that we are capable of understanding that there is a harmony, and every day we discover more of it." - Sydnie Unfound

"[Order of the Universe] Is the Alliance celebration of the end of the year and of all its member species," Vasiht'h said. "It's a list of all the major holidays of the Pelted. Every world finds their day and then schedules the other days in front of and behind it in the order given. So here, Rispa's Day is the fulcrum, and then the rest of the holidays are strung out before and behind it. On worlds with homogeneous populations, the other holidays are basically just excuses to send letters or packages to friends. In places like this, where there are lots of other Pelted, the Order can feel like two weeks of solid parties."

She could discern no pattern to any of it; it was as if the community was celebrating a hundred different smaller holidays, all at the same time, and she learned later from the café owner, Jalina, that it was so.

“The Order of the Universe,” that Harat-Shar had said. “A lot of our holidays fall during winter, or at the beginning of the year which is in winter, so we line them up on the Alliance Mean calendar and celebrate them all, one after another, until the party season is over! It’s magnificent. I love it. Here, have these roasted chestnut wheels. I baked them myself this morning.”

“But I thought each planet had its own calendar?” Sediryl asked. “What if that planet’s winter does not line up with the universal calendar?”

“Then they get to celebrate it twice, if they happen to be off�world when the season hits!”
