Talk:Evelis Lona Mathanith
In the scene with the wedding crashers (Farmer's Crown, chapter 3), the Mathanith heir is identified as Evelis Lona.
Later on in the same chapter, Tolden says to Lisinthir: "Evelis's cousin has never forgiven you for making him look awful. His aunt doesn't like you much either, and she's still in charge of Mathanith. ... she dotes on Noran, even more than she does her own daughter and heir."
Major Pieces, "Disengage" also identifies Noran as the nephew of the head of Mathanith, whom Elenoriel favors even over her own daughter and heir.
In the Court of Dragons, "The Leader" says that the head of Mathanith is considering a different heir due to Evelis's extended conversation with Lisinthir at the wedding feast. Duluvin is mentioned as a contrast, implying that he was a previous heir. (Girl on Fire chapter 27 mentions Duluvin as the heir to Sora Mathanith.) The story also says that frequent changes of heir reflect badly on Mathanith, implying that there has been more than one change lately -- or at least, that there has been public discussion of the possibility.
So we have Elenoriel Sora Mathanith as the head of the House, with her daughter Evelis Lona Mathanith as her heir. This has been the case since at least Lisinthir's first foray into the Eldritch court, despite Elenoriel's publicly-known preference for Noran ___ Mathanith, the son of Elenoriel's unnamed sister, and despite a public perception of Elenoriel's fickleness in her choice of heir.
So, questions:
(1) Why the perception of fickleness? Who else has been the Mathanith heir besides Duluvin and Evelis? (And when was Duluvin? Before Girl on Fire or after?)
(2) Why the difference in family name between Evelis and Elenoriel?
(3) What is Noran's family name, and has he ever been the Mathanith heir?
