Twelveworld Lord
The male currently holding the title of Lord of the Twelveworld. Liegeman of the Breath of the Living Air.
WEIRDLY I DO NOT STATE HERE WHAT HE IS LORD OVER, IS IT ONLY THE TWELVEWORLD OR IS THERE MORE
Appearance and Personality
A brown male with a large, blunt head and thick horns. Unlike Second and the Usurper, whose clothes had the austere lines of a uniform, this male wore an embroidered robe over trousers, both wine-colored, offsetting his eyes which were nearly magenta: bright and red trending toward purple.[1]
Other Shapes
- Eldritch (donated by Tolden Tera Thavelfin).
Biography
Loves the Attendant, whom he rescued seven years prior to the events of the Insurrection from the Lord of the Coreward Slide. [2]
Described as a perverse male who finds wings on females fascinating; castrates are a sufficient substitute. [1]
Has a hunting estate on his Firstworld.[3]
Maintains rigorous discipline on his ships, and is spoken well of by his subordinates.[4] An excellent combat commander. [5] The Queen observes that "the Keeper and the Senior Ranger tell me that the Twelveworld prospers. That you maintain the security of the sector, ensure healthy trade, attend to disasters and the needs of your peoples."[6]
"The thorn throne had been his aim all of his life." He secured the Twelveworld and united its warring lords; he had always been zealous in his execution of the duties specific to his title, guarding the Vault and its twelve watch-worlds. His Attendant assumed this was all part of his path to the throne, but he revealed when the Breath was found that it was (at least partly) piety: he believes that the Vault and its creatures are proof that the Living Air exists, and that they are what allow the Chatcaava to know themselves the summit of creation. [2]
During the War
He gave the Queen Ransomed to the pirates because without her wings, she held no attraction for him; this decision was especially hard for him to live with later, because of his religious beliefs. [2]
He gathered the system lords of the north and east under his banner and sent them to Apex-East to join the main fleet, while he went to the Throneworld to report to the Usurper about the pirates. He believed Fleet would take a beating from the diversion, but would not leave enough pirates to settle an asteroid. [1] Jahir's suggestions (both verbal and mental) convinced him to recall his entire force to the Twelveworld to meet the pirate threat, abandoning the Usurper to his increasing paranoia on the Throneworld. [7]
When the Queen Ransomed became the Breath of the Living Air, the Lord of the Twelveworld became her vassal, and she rode on his flagship to the Throneworld [8], and from there his fleet joined what was left of the Emperor's ships after subduing the Usurper's forces, and they rode to the rescue of the Alliance at Selnor. [9]
Recent History
The Lord of the Twelveworld was among those who pledged themselves to Emperor Kauvauc Ueneuvin and his Queen Ransomed after the war. [10] As the Queen's (or rather, Breath's) personal liegeman, he sat at her side of the table at dinners on the Throneworld. [11]
He accompanied his liegelady to Escutcheon for Sediryl's wedding and investiture. He enjoyed flying and hunting in Imthereli, tried horseback riding, and was generally intrigued by everything. [12] When the Queen Ransomed announced her pregnancy, he became "positively broody", fussing and worrying as if he were the pregnant one. [13] Later, when his Attendant was asked to spy on Bethsaida, he offered to take his place; failing that, he insisted on staying nearby the whole time, saying "The guards that can see me if I do not want to be seen have not yet been born". [14] After one of his courtiers fell into a tree in Imthereli, he was one of the Chatcaava who participated in the joint basilisk and chimera hunt. He demonstrated his Eldritch vocabulary at the beginning: "Greetings. Farewell. Thank you. Yes. No. Stop. Come." [15]
On the way home from Escutcheon, he indulged Tolden in a round of sparring, but considered him just a "fun toy". Lisinthir appointed him to be the liaison between Tolden's group and the court, with his Attendant as interpreter, at first, but by the time they got to free climbing, the Twelveworld Lord could speak in "very passable Eldren". He invited the men to his harem, and by the end of their Throneworld visit, he had titled them all. [16]
Flagship
Flagship Prime commands the Twelveworld Lord's flagship ("We are his deputies. He commands all these vessels. To glory, as he proved recently."[17] Flagship Prime is "engaging company" (by Eldritch standards), and has been years in the Twelveworld Lord's service. "Flagship Prime—did he have a name? Come to that, did the Twelveworld Lord? Accompanied them on this tour, following the other male the way an indulgent castellan did a favored noble when the latter insisted on clattering around the storerooms. The interaction amused her, particularly when she realized the Twelveworld Lord was aware he was being indulged. That interaction, barely a flash of expressions exchanged when the latter said something particularly outrageous, suggested years of trust and camaraderie."[17]
Quotes
- "It would be a poor deed if the system fleets of the strongest sectors of the Empire did not weigh favorably against their naval counterparts. This is a battle we have been anticipating ever since we met the freaks. We intend to enjoy it." [1]
- "That is the paradox of it. That they might fight us when we take them, or submit to us and break, but they don’t think of stealing us for their own harems. They have fire, but they are not like us. And they have strange notions of Fittingness." [4]
- "This sensation. It is like the sensation when I touch the Attendant, and he touches me. There’s something true in it, and it whispers like the Living Air." [6]
- "The guards that can see me if I do not want to be seen have not yet been born. I have hunted on the Vault." [14]
- "We like your world, Ambassador. This is quarry worthy of the mightiest hunters. If you give leave, you will have males clamoring at your threshold, begging permission to be set loose here." [15]
