Floor Plan, Ground Floor

The Glaseahn settlement on Escutcheon, on Seni lands.

History

Built by Vasiht'h's family (but would be a good idea to explain who designed it, and how it was built, and who oversaw the actual construction).

Note here also the initial settlers: their number (listed probably in "Moving Out", in Major Pieces) and names, if they're listed by name.

Customs

A few hours after sundown, lights are dimmed and the Glaseah have taken to quieter pursuits and less boisterous gatherings, in an attempt to honor their host planet's customs.[1]

Floor Plan, Second Floor

Community Center

The community center was put up quickly, with two floors above ground and one below, and was only slowly differentiated into more functional workspaces after the initial months of the Glaseahn emigration to Escutcheon. The Glaseah brought both a Pad and a generator with them, which is a significant investment in the settlement and made the building of the community center in such a short period possible. The Pad is a portable, single-person model and they move it from place to place depending on whose argument on where it belongs has won lately.

The restrooms are large enough "not just for Glaseah but for Akubi, while also having niches for smaller species."[1]

First Floor

The first floor has most of the communal areas: the kitchen, the dining hall (for which it was named), a main hang-out space, some break-out rooms of various sizes for conferences, classes, or discussions; a media/library room, several bathrooms, storage and utility closets, and a small room for first aid.

The great room "boasted an enormous hearth, stone walls, and conspicuously exposed wooden beams," but despite this external rustic touches, it is equipped with artificial lighting (cleverly disguised as flickering lamps) and heated floor tiles.[2] Both this front hall and the large meeting space behind it are two stories tall.[1]

Second Floor

Accessible by stairs or lift[1] (and possibly ramp? Ref: Dragons' Fealty).

The second floor was renovated into guest space, with an eye toward family groups. There are two large family suites and two (large) single rooms for guests, which gives the Glaseah enough space to host four separate family groups. The second floor also has a public bathroom and laundry room, a utility closet, and a large hang-out room on the corner with balconies overlooking the grounds. The hearth-hall downstairs takes up both floors and can't be seen from the second floor... but the hang-out hall on the first floor can be overlooked by an interior balcony accessible from the hall leading around the suites.

These guest rooms are "modern with a rural veneer." The furniture looks handcarved (but wasn't, in most cases), and the embroidered cushions fabricated by genie.[1] Side tables are apt to have flower arrangements.

One of these upstairs rooms was repurposed into a community nursery[3], as a temporary measure until the Glaseah can embark on a dedicated building.

Basement

The basement was originally used for more sack-out space for sleeping Glaseah and is now mostly undifferentiated space, used for storage (goods and food), power and water, and more laundry/baths. There's also a generator here, sufficient for the needs of the entire community.

Grounds

The grounds immediately around the center include a climate-controlled greenhouse (Sediryl's projects), a garden (community), a landing pad and a stable.

There are also plans for cottages, some of which have (presumably) already been erected since Marevhe offered one to Palland and his family on his arrival to the planet.[2]

Manor Walk

The path connecting Ingleside to the Seni Manse leads out of the clearing around Ingleside and through a forest.[4] This path is lined with warm-toned pinlights that activate at night or in adverse weather, as well as small posts that emit a field intended to ward off predators.[5]. This path leads to the back lawn behind the Seni Manor.[4]

Glade

The glade is the area immediately in "front" of Ingleside's facade.

The Tree

A very large field scattered with several copses, with one large tree in the center. That central tree is so old that three of its largest branches have sagged to the ground and are now covered with grass and wildflowers. The uppermost branches form a downward facing cup--it's a willow-like tree, with long-blade-like leaves and limber, flexible limbs. The tree has been decorated with floating amber lights (visible at night): "a fairy bower". It smells like a spice (cardamom, maybe, something a little woody, a little citrusy). The tree is large enough to have several "rooms", separate sections created by the limbs that either are resting on the ground, or bent upwards.[6] A small shrine resides in one of those 'rooms', with a carved wooden panel of the Goddess forming the world from Her blown breath, brought from Anseahla, and a small altar of local wood for offerings and incense. The panel hung at the end of the hall leading to the bedrooms in Vasiht'h's childhood home. Both were carved by his father, Petaq, who learned woodcarving from his father, a carpenter.

A stream runs across the southeastern border of the glade. It's bordered in the forest.

The copses are connected by fanciful winding paths that are edged in stones or low shrubs.

The Tree

"The tree that had arrested his wife's attention oversaw the entirety of it like the reigning monarch some wanted to name it for, a tree so large its limbs had slumped to the ground before rising again into thinner branches. Its long leaves had astonishing colors: wine red on their tops and gold on the bottoms, so that when the wind rustled them they flashed like gems."

Known as 'The Elder Willow' and 'Her Majesty', among other terms.
