* During the captain's retreat, the Cometfencer saw battle in a dark pirate base, alongside the Stardancer, during which they were so significantly damaged they required a tow back to the nearest beachhead, which could only repair them enough to bootstrap them to a starbase's proper drydock. Crew
Mixed species/mixed-sex crew.
Has developed an assault team with experience in boarding maneuvers, thanks to Tierney. She's "turned the Cometfencer's security division into something the Marines would recognize, but that's a specialization that leaves them less suited to all the odds and ends their job descriptions require of them."[4]
Includes:
- Captain, Darian Bakawar (a Seersa male, creamy yellow-colored with dark orange eyes)
- Second Commander is Riley Lennon, a Hinichi female who is "far less devious" than Alastar Virgil.[5]
- C-med is a Harat-Shar tiger, Kostya. Doesn't go by his train name (which he will readily admit is 'Teriblé' because someone nicknmamed his great-great-great-grandfather and his wives and children the terrible family, and it stuck.
- Ji Woo Costello, a "reformed criminal": short human woman with light brown skin, dark hair shaved up one side and bobbed down the other, and monolidded eyes that "looked bored but didn't disguise the alert tension in her body." One of the Old and Proud.[6]
- Erin Tierney, a female human ex-Marine officer, who beat everyone into shape by her standards.[4]
- a Tam-illee who greeted Taylitha on her visit and guided her to the officer's club [1]
- a "cook" (male) who likes to browse the u-banks and newstreams for exotic dishes and add them to the genie [1]
- Lexi Beck, female, human, a healer-assist.[7][8]
- Amos Schultz, male, human, one of Tierney's security personnel.[9]
- Hank Van Aalst, a Hinichi male in Engineering [9]
- Fang the Flitzbe, Erin's best friend.[9]
