An overview of common technologies in the Alliance.
Building Materials
- crete
Power
- Gem grids
Genies
See Genie.
Transportation
- Pads
- Monorail[1]
Ship Technology
See Ship Technology.
Medical Technology
See Alliance Medical Technology
Military Technology
- duster
- entropy packets
Well Drive
Has five "speeds":
- 1
- 2
- 3 (The Lip of the Well); most civilian ships stop here.
- 4 Courier ships occasionally go this speed.
- 5 (The Well's Deep) This speed is only typical of Fleet vessels pushing things.
Visual and Holographic Technology
- 3deo
- Viseo
- Solidographs
- Dominoes
- Roquelares
Communication and Security
- Brain-wave security technology: provide an input (an image or sound) and match the user's brain waves to the recorded brain waves, creating a unique response "fingerprint"[2]
- Projectors: allow someone to record and replay another set of brainwave responses. Small enough to sit on a lap, becomes warm and vibrates when in use.
- Dampeners: allows someone to dampen their own brainwave response
- Decryption box: Automatically decrypts encryptions, given enough time[2]
Need something here about encryption types and real-time ("well-pushed") streams.
Minor Tech
- Data tablets
- Data wands
- Eye films
- Repeaters
- Sendaine storage lockers (locked in some specific way? Mentioned in Earthrise)
- Stasis discs
- Stasis pins
- Telegems: can be activated by flicking an ear (for species with flickable ears)[3]
- other stuff I've probably mentioned and forgotten
- Breathnache, an extremely hard, tough clathrate substance that can be sharpened to a very fine edge; it can cut stone, metal, and transmetal alloys, and can scratch diamond. Constructed atom by atom[4]. Used for applications like starship structural pieces[5], as well as for Alysha Forrest's replacement claws[4]
- Antigrav parachutes, consisting of a small but right T-shaped frame on the back and chest[6]
- Snowplow generators, which create a field that either pushes debris away from the ship or vaporizes it. Not necessary while in Well.[6]
- Meredium, an extremely expensive white metal, comparable in price to breathnache. Meredium is combined with gold in an alloy called "ice gold," of which Alysha Forrest's earrings are made.[7]
- Info-stops: appear to be something like a combination tourist bureau and public Internet kiosk. Come with privacy shields.[8]
- Flexglass: used in buildings in the cheap part of town[8]
