Biography

The Attendant and Twelveworld Lord

Originally a slave in the service of the Lord of the Coreward Slide, where he was often used as a living statue. The Twelveworld Lord rescued him from the Lord of the Coreward Slide seven years prior to the events of the Insurrection. [3]

When he was on Escutcheon for Sediryl's wedding and investiture, the Attendant asked to learn the Change as a gift to the Twelveworld Lord, but the Queen Ransomed denied him, because she felt it was asked for the wrong reasons. [4] However, Lisinthir thought of him later, when Sediryl needed a spy on Bethsaida, and thus the Attendant learned first Qora's shape, then Lili's. [5]

When Tolden and friends visited the Throneworld, Lisinthir asked the Twelveworld Lord to be their liaison to the court, with the Attendant as interpreter. At this point, the Attendant was fluent in Universal and nearly fluent in Eldren. [6]

Quotes

  • "You said I wasn’t afraid—that was why. There was little left in me to be afraid. Only sad, that I had been given a life, and then nothing to do with it… nothing but wither in the service of a cruel and hollow male. Yes. Hollow is the right word. There was nothing in him, and so he kept filling himself with things he stole from others." [3]
  • "I have known so much comfort in my life, for which I have paid nothing. Even the service to which I was relegated as a lesser and menial has given me nothing but contentment.... and you, for which there is no payment great enough. Our Queen asks me to make a sacrifice--to reject that request would be to show my ingratitude for all I have. Indeed, it is... it is a small sacrifice, in comparison to what I have received. I blush to accept because it is the least of what I should do." [1]

Trivia

  • keeps a diary given to him by the Twelveworld Lord
  • uses 'sir' with the Twelveworld Lord at the latter's request, but also uses 'my-better' when he feels it more appropriate
  • rode a horse for the first time on Escutcheon, when the Queen Ransomed learned to ride[1]
  • after Tolden and his friends attempted to tame the herd beasts on the Throneworld, the Twelveworld Lord promised to get him a horse. [6]
  • returned to Escutcheon with the Twelveworld Lord and went shopping for a horse with Tolden. met Baeren Aul Delen in the stables and decided he wanted a native Eldrich horse.[7]

Languages

  • by the time he returned to the Throneworld after the wedding and investiture, he was fluent in Universal and nearly fluent in Eldren. [6]
