Fasianyl Mina Jisiensire
Sellelvi's Eldritch friend.
Made her come-out during the early years of Liolesa's reign.
Appearance and Personality
Has the Jisiensire chin and mouth. Younger than Liolesa and Hirianthial. Has "rose petal pink" eyes with red ring.
Passionate, sensitive, spontaneous. As a maiden, dramatic and in love with inappropriate stories of doomed lovers and stirring quests. Also loves stargazing and dreaming of other worlds, and had an exploratory bent as a girl (though a rather hapless one). More on the impractical, dreamy side of the spectrum. Devastated by disappointments and often at the whim of her emotions.
Getting older made her a little more pragmatic, but only enough to get by.
Biography
Early Life
Born very late to Rioleth Sera Jisiensire and Nessalya Halin Jisiensire (a younger woman, characterized by most as "very silly."). Nessalya took the Sera name, since at the time it was the ruling family of Jisiensire. When Lamerul Sera remarried, to Gaelira Mina, and the House leadership passed to Mina, Nessalya chose to style their family Mina Jisiensires. Rioleth never stopped calling himself Sera, however, which made for some confusion for Fasianyl - introduced by her mother as a Mina, but by Fasianyl herself as Sera, in loyalty to her father (and because, romantically, she wanted to keep the memory of Ananaia Sera alive). This is the reason Jahir's mother refers to her as Fasianyl Sera Jisiensire in Mindtouch,[1] but Araelis claims her as a Mina.
Nessalya is also responsible for cradle-betrothing her to Athanesin because at the time there was some wrangling over river rights; Jisiensire clearly held the end of the river Liieraeid. At the split, however, there was argument over whether Ulurith or Sovanil should claim it, and Nessalya hoped wedding Fasianyl to Athanesin would solidify a claim in their joint favor. Her come-out, therefore, had political implications that a typical debutante's didn't, because it was supposed to give the families the opportunity to make their alliance public.
Fasianyl had her come-out during the summer court when Liolesa was newly queen. (That was quoted as 'some two centuries ago' during Rose Point on page 196). She debuted with Sellelvi as her sole companion which is relevant because debutantes show with their chosen ladies-in-waiting, who attach their fortunes to their lady's and become a part of society themselves if a tier of support beneath the significant players of a House. But more than servants. This caused the expected brouhaha which allowed Liolesa to make her beliefs clear to her court (this event was conflated in historical accounts with her Investiture). This was already more controversy than Sovanil wanted, but they were willing to live with it (and in fact, Athanesin was not against the prospect of taming a spirited and wrongheaded bride). But Fasianyl, true to her romantic nature, fell in love with her portrait painter and was discovered in his bed, something described mildly later as "one of lady Fasianyl's suitors was a portrait painter and did many pictures of them together." Sovanil broke off the engagement, infuriating Fasianyl's mother, and was sent to a convent to wait out the possibility of her pregnancy.
When she returned two months later, she discovered the painter had been spirited away, and not all her demands to know his whereabouts were productive of anything other than her mother telling her that if she did not become more tractable, she would find herself bundled back to the convent. Heartbroken and rebellious, she chose instead to leave Escutcheon with Sellelvi.
Nessalya assumed Fasianyl would return and never sought to replace her as heir. She and Rioleth quarreled over how the affair turned out, which led to an estrangement. They never conceived another child, and so there was no heir to supplant Fasianyl. Nessalya went into the convent, and Rioleth died, and took with him the Sera family name.
In the Alliance
Fasianyl went with Sellelvi on an impromptu grand tour of the Alliance
Present Day
Following Sellelvi's death, took up cataloging star systems on a survey vessel (alone). One of the reasons Liolesa has some influence in the Colony Bureau is because Fasianyl's been at work mapping for centuries. She wasn't interested in interfacing much with society at this point (neither the Alliance nor her homeworld), and stops into civilization only to resupply. Unlike Lesandurel, her response to Sellelvi's death was to draw back, not to dig deeper into her "mortal family," so she missed the return of Sellelvi's pards to Escutcheon and onto Chalice, and in fact, the Chatcaavan War.
Timeline
- Based on below, Fasianyl was born in 106 BA (2577 by the old timeline, I think). This is 28 years after the Vetch Agreement (the treaty between Eldritch and Alliance), during Maraesa's reign. This would make her 288 years younger than Liolesa and 299 years younger than Hirianthial, and put her in the same set as Jeasa (48 years her senior). Surela would be 146 years older than her, but in the same set as well.
- Three years before Fasianyl was born, Maraesa declared the Decree Against Foreign Impositions, and she was 35 years old when Maraesa created the Veil with the Decree of Enigma. Since she was interested in aliens, this was probably a great grief to her.
- Fasianyl was 77 when Liolesa became Queen, which was probably greatly exciting: she was due to make her come-out soon, and into the court of a new queen. (This might also why she came out a little early).
- Fasianyl met Sellelvi (who came to Escutcheon by invitation) in 191 BA. This corresponds with Fasianyl's come-out, which puts her age, tentatively, as around 85 (come-outs were earlier in her age). Sellelvi was 23 at the time.
- After the events on Escutcheon, Fasianyl left the planet with Sellelvi. She remained with Sellelvi during the pard's lifetime, and in her years earned several degrees and had at least one affair. After Sellelvi died in 281 BA, she did not return to Escutcheon, but used her stipend to purchase a ship and take up a job as a freelance star cartographer.
- This means at the time of the end of the war, Fasianyl's been tooling around by herself, with infrequent stops into civilization for resupply and news, for 200 years. At this point she is 375 years old. Surela is 522.
