Geography
Most of the best land held by the Eldritch is under Galare control. The Galare province (prior to the merging of Laisrathera and Firilith, and Asaniefa and Imthereli) is the largest both in numbers and in area, with a total population of 10,205. It is bordered on the north by what was previously Asaniefa, in the south by Ulurith, and in the west by Deriline, Mathanith, and now Imthereli. Its entire eastern border is formed by the coast: sea cliffs that end in narrow beaches. Galare's land is mostly flat, ideal for building and better for farming; it has forests and one major lake, and has access to both tributaries of the Winewent. The planet's capital city (Argent) and the palace Ontine are both sited in eastern Galare, on the coast.
The province is split into seven parcels, with the most populous being Jesa at 4200, which includes the capital (the largest city on the planet)--the majority of the population in Jesa's parcel is concentrated there. The next most populous is Delen, immediately to the north, with 2200 spread from its coast to its inland forests; and then, Nuera directly to Delen's west, with 1800. Nuera's smaller neighbors are Seni to the south, with 466 people, and Nase to the north, a family dwindling in importance at 217. Nase was once known for its hunting... which is partially responsible for its failure, since it partakes of the natural ranges of the chimera and basilisks, and other major northern predators.
The two southern provinces, Emil and Catha, and comfortably prosperous for their size at 710 and 612 people; Catha, with its coastal border, has less arable land and the smaller population is concentrated closer inland.

Founders
The seven noble families of the Galare House are descended from Jerisa, her male cousin Thorsen, and her niece Alari. There are many intermarriages between these three already-related families, with the result that any two members of the Galare nobility are very likely to be related to each other, many of them in more than one way. (Remember that bit near the end of Fathers' Honor where Petaq points out that it may be awkward for Jahir's mother to marry his wife's father, and Armin Palland objects, "But they're not related, are they?" Um, they're both Galare, Armin, so yes, they are related. They are, in fact, first cousins: their mothers were sisters.)

- Liolesa's first cousins on her father's side: Fassiana Delen, Kolvin and Thesali Nuera, Haladir Delen, Malavi Nase and her brother Deranthir, Filisin Catha and her sister Sorithinil.
- Liolesa's first cousins on her mother's side: Anariel and Besinir Jesa, Hirianthial Sarel Jisiensire and Baniel.
- Lisinthir, Juzie, Jahir & Amber, Sediryl, and Lili are all Liolesa's first cousins once removed, through her father. They're all also related to her on her mother's side, but those are more distant relationships.
- Lisinthir, Juzie, Jahir, and Sediryl are all double second cousins to each other. Lili is double seconds with Sediryl, but second cousins "only" once with everyone else. They're all related in various other ways, of course.
