Daqan
The Third Voice of Faulza; a Faulfenzair prophet.
Appearance and Personality
"His body looked like something shaped solely by the needs of the God’s Dance: chest and core and legs so powerfully developed, to also be so supple. It was useless to call him handsome when the sight of him fed unnamed hungers for glory and grace; and his face was transfigured by zeal, a passion that invested every move- ment with meaning, no matter how trivial. And he was black, as black as the first Faulfenza before Qudii earned their people the Paints of the God, from head to tufted tail... all except his eyes, which glowed a fearsome gold, like the sun in summer."[1]
Biography
Daqan is the third Voice of the Faulfenza, the prophet preceding and preparing for the third Fireborn messiah. He was born and reared in the Sainai, high on a rocky slab with crumbled stone encircling it, in a single-room house, the back wall of which is formed by the mountain.
He announced himself to Qufiil during the Fireborn Festival in Qodii, when he was 110 years old,[1] at which time he Danced (for the first time), his calling, which became the Scroll of the Voice Revealed.
Family
When they Entwined, Daqan's mother (Peli)[1] dreamed that they would have only one child, when she was 'years past bearing', and that this child would belong not to them, but to all Qufiil. His father was the one who dreamed, the year of his conception, that he should go into the Sainai and build a home there in preparation for his son's birth. They died while raising him in the mountains. He has no siblings, no Lifemate, and no children.
Timeline
- Daqan is 48 years older than Zafiil (a pittance by Faulfenzair standards; it puts them in the same generation), so he was born in 2241. That means he's about 230ish years old when the Alliance was founded in 1 BA.
- He is around 480 years old when Zafiil dies in about 250 BA, with (just about) half his life before him.
- After about 60 years, after the Faulfenza make their treaty with the Alliance, he leaves. It is at this point that he meets Tristan Liferiver (who is in middle-age for a Chatcaavan, at around 150 years old).
- At the time of the (First?) Chatcaavan War, he's in his early 711 or so, which is nearing the end of his life, and still living on Akana Ris.
Quotes
- "It's enough that they [the Others]'ll save us without them being our lifemates as well."[2]
- "The prophet makes straight the way. That’s much easier than leading people down it."[2]
